Slatkin & Co. American Boardwalk candles

I am so excited to try the new line of candles from Slatkin & Co. called “American Boardwalk”.  They sound so fun and I love the cute labels on them.  Having grown up and spending almost every summer on the boardwalks of New Jersey, these candles bring back feelings of nostalgia.

They are available online now, and in stores on May 18th.  I ordered two of the candles today (Summer Boardwalk and Root Beer Float) and I cannot wait to get them in the mail.  Here are the scents they are offering and their descriptions:

Slatkin & Co. Mango Cilantro

Yesterday I stopped in at my local Bath & Body Works for their 2 for $20 Slatkin & Co. Candle sale. I love the B&BW sales and refuse to pay full price for their candles. On this trip I picked up four new scents that I’m so excited about!

In this trip I picked up the following candles:

• Caribbean Escape – Indulge in a sweet, tropical blend of melon, raspberry nectar and Italian lemon, tempered with creamy coconut milk and raw sugarcane.  I love this one and saleslady said it smells amazing when burning!
• Lemon Mint Leaf – Bright and refreshing – lemon balm and green spearmint blend delightfully with fresh citrus and vetiver.  This smells perfect for Spring!  Light and refreshing and so bright.
• Mango Cilantro -A farm fresh creation with ripened mangos, crisp green cilantro and white nectarine.   It smells like a heavenly juicy peach!  I love it and can’t wait to burn this one
• Pineapple Punch – Beyond refreshing – a dazzling sweet mix of juicy mango, fresh pineapple and tropical grapefruit, infused with dark rum and sugared musk.  It is funny the bottom of the candle describes it completely differently, but this scent is sweet and heavenly!

Slatkin & Co. Frosted Cupcake

In this video the host talks about her experience and review of the Frosted Cupcake candles.  She states it is very different from last years batch – I cannot confirm or deny that as I did not try this scent last year.  There is also a lot of talk about the label looking “too childish”.  I like the look of the giant frosted cupcake and think it is so cute!  To each their own…

Slatkin & Co. Candles

In this video the host talks about some test scents she is trying out.  Test scents are offered at test stores in select locations.  The test scents she covers are:

Yankee Candle Shortbread Cookie

In the video she covers the following scents:

• Shortbread cookie – a very light scent.  Similar to a milk and cookies type scent, however sweeter and similar to a buttery cookie scent.
• Buttercream – just like buttercream frosting.  Homemade, sweet, delicious buttery icing.  I can imagine this one would make me quite hungry!
• Early Sunrise – bright citrus and spa scent.  Like a citrus rind that smells fresh and delicious.
• Cherry Lemonade – one of my favorites!  Smells so delicious, sweet and fresh.

Yankee Candle Fluffy Towels

This weekend I stopped in at Bed, Bath & Beyond to look for a new comforter. My husband and I have had the same deep purple velvet comforter since we got married — five years ago. As Spring has sprung I thought it would be the perfect time to freshen up the bedroom. Instead of a comforter I found a Yankee candle sale.

Bed, Bath & Beyond was offering a 25% discount on a selection of candles – Fluffy Towels, Pineapple Cilantro and Sage & Citrus.  I have tried Pineapple Cilantro in the past and LOVED it, but decided to be good and purchase only one candle – the Fluffy Towels.

Upon smelling Fluffy Towels at the store it had a nice, clean almost Febreeze or Downy like scent to it.  It is described as: The fresh scent of clean towels warm from the dryer with notes of lemon, apple, lavender and lily.  

After burning it for quite a while, it is a bit too floral smelling for my liking.  I was hoping for more of a Clean Cotton type scent, so my search for the clean fluffy towel like scent will go on…

Bahama Fizz

This weekend I picked up a nice haul at Bath & Body Works with some of their Slatkin & Co. Candles.

So I purchased a total of 7 candles for $60 and here is what I got:

• 2 of the Frosted Cupcake – (two of them because my husband loves them so much!) They are described as: A treat after a day at the market, a delicious vanilla-bean cupcake and rich buttercream frosting with a dusting of sugar. 
• 2 of the Bahama Fizz - (two of them because I love them so much!)  This is one of my very favorites.  It is described as: A refreshing concoction of island pineapple, banana and fresh kiwi, infused with spiced rum and coconut. 
• Wild Strawberry – I honestly have not burned this one yet, so I cannot report on it other than the cold throw.  It is described as: Red, ripened berries, still warm from the strawberry patch, blend perfectly with wild honeysuckle and orange flower.
• Poppy Sunshine – This was burning in the store when we popped in for the sale.  I have to say it smells really, really nice when burning!  It is described as: A luscious burst of red poppies on a sunny day, with sparkling lemon, sweet red raspberry and a touch of white musk.
• Tiki Beach – Let me preface this by stating I am not a fan of coconut; however, I truly love this one.  I don’t get an overly coconut vibe from it – thankfully.  It is described as: A tropical island blend of toasted coconut, vanilla musk and purple orchids infused with sugared berries.

Lemon Mint Leaf

Spring is here.  Well, at least it is here in Oklahoma.  Today it is around 75*, windy and sunny.  I’m so happy about this and to usher in the new season, I have recently purchased quite a few candles.  Everything from Trapp, to Slatkin & Co., to Yankee.  I like variety when it comes to my candles!

One thing is for sure, I also like a good a deal.  This past weekend Bath & Body Works was having a great sale on their candles – 2 for $20.  I made quite a haul and have been burning these fresh and fruity scents.  In the following video, the host of ScentMyWay talks about her favorite Spring candles for 2012 from Bath & Body Works and Yankee.

Today I decided to stop by the local flower shop in my town and purchase some of my favorite candles – Trapp Private Gardens candles.  These are without a doubt my absolute favorite scented candles – ever!!

I ended up with three different kinds:

• No. 8 Fresh Cut Tuberose – A tropical white flower with an intense, heady floral fragrance reminds you of a gardenia only more powerful and memorable. This is my tried and true favorite.  Perhaps my most favorite candle ever!  I have been burning this one for years and love it!

•  No. 62 Yuzu & Bonsai – Sparkling citrus notes of the Japanese Yuzu accented with fresh, green notes of the Bonsai tree.  This one was a gift from the lady at the flower shop – she is so sweet.  I have not burned this one yet, but I’ll post another review about it later.
• No. 64 White Lotus & Lychee – This exotic fragrance captures the delicate beauty of the white lotus flower enhanced with fresh lychee fruit and creamy jasmine rice. This is Trapp’s newest scent and I’m so excited to try it!
